Planting Our Future
Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council
This project is one way that Solihull Council are taking action for their Climate Change Declaration. Planting 250,000 trees across the Borough in a nod to the ancient Forest of Arden that once covered the area, this project works closely with stakeholders such as schools, community groups, private land owners and charities to deliver its aims. Recently awarded ‘Tree City of the World’ status, this project is helping to strengthen local pride as well as bringing about environmental benefits.
Our judges thought this project was “terrific”, noting that in linking it to the Forest of Arden “there’s a real opportunity to connect with the longer past when there’s real anxiety about the future”. The judges praised the project’s “professional attitude” and “enthusiasm form those involved”, adding that it was “a well organised, well connected, convincing strategy”.
